Questions of identity are complex, raising the issues of common sense and desire, of passion and injustice, and of the individual’s relation to the social bond. How do social relations change – if they do – or generate – if they do – a true identity? Between a perception that you have of yourself and the perceptions that others have of you, there will be a gap, a margin that psychoanalysis offers to explore and map out its consequences. How do perceptions of identity and difference generate conflict in all areas of human life, from love to politics and everyday social life?
