Associate Membership
For Clinical Affiliates
Being a Clinical Affiliate is a necessary but by no means a sufficient requirement to be accepted on the track leading to Associate Membership.
The process leading to Associate Membership involves 3 stages:
- Application to be placed on the track leading to Associate Membership. There will be an interview at which the candidate’s engagement with Lacanian psychoanalysis and their relation to CFAR will be addressed as well as any other relevant questions.
- If the candidate has been accepted on the Associate Track, s/he will follow CFAR’s seminar programme for a minimum period of one year, be in Lacanian supervision for a minimum of one year and have written a clinical paper and submitted it to CFAR’s Training Committee.
- The candidate applies for Associate Membership.
There will be an interview to assess if Associate Membership is a suitable position for the candidate to obtain within CFAR.
The assessment will take into account the paper the candidate has submitted, their clinical work, their engagement with Lacanian psychoanalysis and with CFAR and any other relevant issues.
If the candidate has been accepted as an Associate Member, s/he can apply after a minimum period of one year for Full Membership.
For Lacanian psychoanalysts who have not trained with CFAR
The candidate may apply to become an Associate Member.
There will be an interview at which the candidate’s clinical background, their engagement with Lacanian psychoanalysis and their relation to CFAR will be assessed as well as any other relevant questions.
If the candidate has been accepted as Associate Member, s/he can proceed on the following track which may lead towards Full Membership. They must be actively involved with CFAR, i.e. participating in seminars and lectures as well as undertaking some teaching, for a minimum period of two years.
After this period the candidate can apply for Full Membership. There will be an interview to assess if Full Membership is a suitable position for the candidate to obtain within CFAR. The assessment will take into account the candidate’s clinical experience, their engagement with Lacanian psychoanalysis and with CFAR and any other relevant issues.
For trainees of CFAR who have followed the clinical programme for a minimum of four years and have two written papers
There will be an interview to assess if Associate Membership is a suitable position for the candidate to obtain within CFAR. The assessment will take into account the papers the candidate has submitted, their clinical work, their engagement with Lacanian psychoanalysis and with CFAR and any other relevant issues.
Registration on the Associate Track does not guarantee Associate Membership of CFAR, which is always subject to assessment at the time of application.
